Undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama with a BA in dance. She came to Birmingham in 1999 to dance with Southern Danceworks, Alabama's first modern dance company. She has taught ballet and modern dance at The Dance Foundation, The Alabama Ballet, and Birmingham-Southern College. Presently she teaches ballet in the musical theatre department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Pilates at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Mary Margaret completed her comprehensive Pilates training with Body Arts and Science in 2009. She implemented Pilates into the curriculum of The Alabama Ballet School student and adult programs and the Alabama Fine Arts School dance department. She has taught Pilates for the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive at the University of Alabama and virtually for more than ten years. Her knowledge of the body through her Pilates education informs her dance classes, as well as dancing informs her Pilates classes. She incorporates body awareness into her classes, educating all students about the body's biomechanics and how it can work with efficiency and power at the highest level of performance. Mary Margaret was fundamental in Southern Danceworks, who now partners with UAB AIM, to bring Dance for Parkinson’s to Birmingham in 2011. She also teaches classes for M2M, Movement to Music, through the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative.
